Safe Usage of Elevators

Hello VT Professionals,

You are kindly requested to educate your customers and the general public on the SAFE usage of Elevators/Lifts to ensure user/public/customer safety.

This is one of your Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and the right thing to do.

Below are some of the tips, which you may use for the safety awareness campaigns at any level. (No permission needed).

Tips on the Safe Usage of Elevators / Lifts:

1. Wait Patiently: Stand clear of the doors and wait for the elevator to come to a complete stop before entering or exiting.

2. Mind the Gap: Ensure there’s no gap between the elevator floor and the building floor. If there is, wait for assistance and don’t attempt to enter or exit.

3. Respect Capacity: Observe weight and occupancy limits posted inside the elevator. Overloading can strain the system and pose risks.

4. Hold the Door: If you see someone rushing to catch the elevator, hold the door open button until they safely enter.

5. Hands and Objects In: Keep hands, feet, clothing, and objects away from the doors. Wait for the doors to fully open before entering or exiting.

6. In Case of Emergency: Use the emergency intercom/bell button or phone if you’re trapped, but remain calm. Never attempt to force the doors open or exit a stalled elevator.

7. Child and Pet Safety: Hold children and pets firmly, and if possible, use the elevator’s child lock feature to prevent them from operating it unsupervised.

8. Avoid Crowding: Especially in the times of pandemics, maintain social distancing within the elevator.

9. No Horseplay: Avoid jumping, shaking, or any kind of rough play inside the elevator.

10. Exit Promptly: When you reach your floor, exit the elevator promptly to allow others to get in or out without delays.

11. Report Issues: If you notice any strange noises, sudden jerks, or unusual behaviors, report them to building management promptly.

Remember, safe usage of elevators is not only about following rules but also being aware, considerate, and proactive in ensuring a secure environment for everyone.
