For any housing society there are two major heads under which the society is compelled to spend more and more every month. One is the water motor- pump electric consumption bill and another is the elevator electric consumption bill.
Both are essential and there is no other cheaper option for it.
Here are some suggestions which can help you reduce your elevator power consumption ultimately reducing your electric bill.
- If you have a conventional ac motor unit for your elevator, then converting it into a variable voltage variable frequency system makes a big difference in terms of energy saving. This system commonly known as VVVF drive system give nearly 20℅ saving in energy consumption. In addition to energy saving, it increases the overall useful life of the gear, motor, brakes, ropes and pulley. This increase in useful life of major and costly parts is again an indirect saving.
- If your elevator has a gear-motor system then converting it into a gearless system will give nearly 20-25% energy saving.
- If you have two or more elevators in one lobby then it is advisable to convert it into duplex control or group control. This will also help in energy saving, waiting time as well as improve overall performance.
- Study traffic movement and plan for the best possible parking / home landing of elevators. This will avoid unwanted use of the elevators thus helping in saving energy.
- Keep the guide rails clean and lubricated. The guide friction or for that matter any friction adds to the motor power consumption.
Intelligent use of an elevator.
In addition to the above conventional methods there are few important tips which can help you in reducing energy consumption.
- While moving in the elevator, wait for some time so that other passengers can come, ultimately reducing unwanted travel.
- Duplex control should be designed in such a way that the elevator which requires minimum possible current depending upon the cabin load, counter weight load and their respective position should attend to the call.
- While coming down, try to use the stairs as much as possible. In addition to saving on electric bills it will help you in maintaining your physical fitness.
- In case of full collective selective control there will be two buttons on all floors except the terminal floor. Press the button as per your direction of travel i.e. If you want to go down, press the down call button and not the up-call button.
- If the door track is cleaned regularly and the door mechanism is cleaned, lubricated and adjusted regularly, it can also contribute to saving some energy.
- In addition to all these, regular servicing and readjustment/resetting can also add to the energy saving.
Updated technology and intelligent use are the key for energy saving.
